What Are SAPFs And SCIFs?

Special Access Program Facilities (SAPFs) and Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs), also known as Situation Rooms, are two types of high-security facilities used to store and protect data. SAPFs and SCIFs are also used to discuss and communicate confidential data and intelligence, meaning there are a number of acoustic and security measures that need to be in place.

What Are They Used For, And What Types Of Organisations Use Them?

Both Special Access Program Facilities (SAPFs) and Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) are predominantly used for the storage of sensitive, private data that requires a more secure, controlled environment. They are typically used within the defence sector for military or government operations.

What Are The Differences Between SAPFs And SCIFs?

Whilst the terms SAPF and SCIF are often used interchangeably, the major difference between the two is what they are used for. Special Access Program Facilities (SAPFs) are mainly used by the Department of Defence, including the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps, as a storage space for special access programs. In contrast, Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) are more commonly used by government intelligence communities, such as national security, MI5, and in the USA, the FBI and CIA, to communicate & store sensitive information. Previously, SAPFs and SCIFs were built to different construction standards, but now they are built to the same specifications.
