LPS 1175 Security Ratings Explained
Many materials such as plasterboard, brick, block, non security rated composite panels, steel cladding etc., can be breached in a relatively short time.
The LPS 1175 test stipulates the allowable toolset and minimum time for each security rating level to prevent forcible entry through any element of the building. LPS1175 is intended to form part of an overall security strategy required for the protection of assets.
In the case of Workspace Technology’s Prefabricated Data Centres, Telecoms Cabins and SCIFS, the test measures the time to create an opening large enough for a person to get through (minimum of an elliptical shape 400mm x 225mm). The security levels also consider all the joints and fixing to the prefabricated building environment.
All testing is performed by trained personnel with full product and construction knowledge. Many initial trials are carried out to assess the best tools to use from the allowable toolset.
Security ratings are achieved by a combination of materials within the core of the panel systems.
LPS1175 SR1: Opportunist attack by bodily force using minimal tools (e.g. screwdriver, knife, pliers, etc)
LPS1175 SR2: More determined opportunist attack with tools of a higher mechanical advantage (e.g. SR1 tools plus bolt cutters, claw hammer, drill, etc).
LPS1175 SR3: Deliberate forced entry of protected premises using bodily force and a selection of attack options (e.g. SR2 tools plus short axe, chisels, crowbar, gas torch, etc).
LPS1175 SR4: Experience attempts at forced entry with higher tool levels (e.g. SR3 tools plus felling axe, sledgehammer, steel wedges, disc grinder, jigsaw, etc).
LPS1175 SR5: Serious attempts at forced entry with top end battery power tools used by fire and rescue teams (e.g. SR4 tools plus circular saw and the 750W reciprocating saw with specialist blades). SR5 is a significant step up from SR4.
All tools are readily available to anybody with serious intent.
